What Is the Lucence AgeQ Test?
The Lucence AgeQ test is a blood test that estimates your biological age using 7 markers in
your blood, combined with your age and sex. The test was developed using health data
from more than 300,000 adults across Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom. It was
built by Lucence, a precision health and biotechnology company with operations in Singapore and the
United States.
The 7 markers tested for are fasting glucose, albumin,
creatinine, red
blood cells, and three types of white blood cell (neutrophils, basophils and monocytes).
They are measured by 4 blood tests: fasting glucose, creatinine, albumin and a full blood count.
What Is a Biological Age Test?
A biological age test estimates how well your
body is functioning compared with other people of the same age. The result is given as
a number of years.
A result lower than your actual age suggests your body is functioning like that of someone younger;
a higher one means some of the markers are more typical of people older than you.
Biological Age vs Chronological Age
Biological age and chronological age measure different things. Your chronological age counts the
years since you were born, while your biological age estimates how well your body is working, based on blood markers compared against other people
of the same age and sex.
The difference that matters is that your chronological age is fixed and your biological age can
change. Everyone born on the same day shares the same chronological age, and nothing changes
it. Biological age differs considerably between people of the same age, and because it is influenced
by weight, activity, diet and smoking, it can go up or
down over time.
Two people aged 50 can get different
results from the same 7 blood markers. One may come back at 46, the other at 54. Both are
still chronologically 50 years old.
Who Should Consider the Lucence AgeQ Test?
AgeQ is available to adults aged 30 and above. It tends to be most useful if you:

How to Prepare for the AgeQ Blood Test
The AgeQ test requires an 8-hour fast, and you may drink plain water during that time. If you are
adding AgeQ to a health screening package or blood test
that does not otherwise require fasting, you will still need to fast, because one of the four blood
tests is a fasting glucose.
Testing is not recommended if you are unwell (and for two weeks after you recover), pregnant or
within three months of delivery, within three months of major surgery, hospitalisation or a blood
transfusion, within one month of stem cell therapy, or currently undergoing chemotherapy.
What Your Lucence AgeQ Results Show
Your AgeQ report presents your result in three parts, then breaks it down by body system.
- AgeQ Score – your biological age, in years.
- AgeQ Status – your AgeQ Score minus your actual age. A negative number means your biological age is lower than your actual age; a positive number means it is higher.
- Five domains – a breakdown of your score across five areas of health, each compared with people of the same age.
The five domains are:
Nutritional Balance
How efficiently your body is using nutrients from food
Energy & Vitality
Oxygen-carrying capacity, which relates to physical stamina
Stress Resilience
How your body handles everyday stress and inflammation
Hydration & Recovery
Internal fluid balance and waste clearance
Repair & Renewal
Your body's maintenance and repair processes
"Each blood marker on its own can look normal, but combined into a biological age they
can still come out above a patient's actual age, and that is the part worth acting on.
What I find most useful is that patients can retest and see whether the changes they
have made have moved their result."
